Our Transitioning Service

TRANSITIONING

Who it’s for: Those undergoing significant life transitions, such as adult children preparing a parent for the move to an assisted-living facility.

Transitioning can be very similar to downsizing, but often it carries more emotional weight than my other projects—especially when the process involves adult children helping a parent (or both parents) move into assisted living, for example, or clearing out space after a parent has died.

These situations require everyone to not only process the associated meaning and memories of each item, but also acknowledge the closure of a significant chapter in their lives. This means many of my transition clients are grieving a kind of loss while we work together—even if their parents are still here.

Because of this heightened sensitivity, transition projects can be more involved than other downsizing work. I always remain cognizant of my clients’ mental state, providing emotional support in addition to my expertise in clearing. In fact, I consider that support to be as important, if not more so, than my professional skill.
