DOWNSIZING
Who it’s for: Those moving to a new residence, or who simply want to reduce the amount of clutter in their current home.
Most often, downsizing is in anticipation of a client’s move to a smaller residence—but I also help people who plan to stay in their existing space and just want less stuff in their lives. I’ve even helped clients who are moving to a larger home but want a fresh start when it comes to their possessions. For nearly all of us, things have a way of piling up over time. It doesn’t necessarily mean the current house is filled to the brim, as in cases of severe over accumulation.
Together, we will walk through the spaces and items that need to be evaluated: Should this be taken to the new space (or does it warrant keeping in the existing space)? If the client is moving to a smaller home, will the item actually fit? Where is its place? Is off-site storage necessary for items that the client wants to keep even though they don’t quite fit a new space and downsized lifestyle?
Some of these decisions can be very difficult, especially when the situation involves going through items that represent years of cherished memories—such as empty-nesters moving from a longtime family home to a condo or apartment.
